Ruca Malén’s dream was born in 1998, when Jean Pierre Thibaud left the chairmanship of Bodegas Chandon Argentina after 10 years in office. In some meetings with Jacques Louis Montalembert, they talked about their common dream of having their own winery in Mendoza, a paradise at the foot of the Andes. They came to an agreement at once and started working together on the project of Ruca Malén, which would be devoted to producing premium wines, based on expert knowledge, on the magnificent lands of Mendoza and, above all, on a lifelong passion. In this way, some months later, Ruca Malén produced its first lot of wines, vintage 1999.

Ruca Malén produces limited lots of wines proceeding from exclusive and selected Cabernet-Sauvignon and Malbec vineyards. The soils of origin respond to the quality looked for in each of the varietals, having as main factor, the climate-soil-blend relationship. This trilogy enables us to individualise the wines and organise them in hierarchies with the imprint of the native soil in its fullest expression.

Ruca Malén owns 27 hectares of vineyards in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, at the foot of the Andes. However, it also appreciates the oenological value of small producers with a long-established tradition inherited from their ancestors. In this way, it tries to privilege the origin, to preserve the natural conditions of the cultivation and to consider the work of man as a factor of incalculable value in obtaining great wines.

At present, the winery produces up to 250.000 bottles a year, although it has been designed to increase its productive capacity in the future.

Ruca Malén’s perspective when making its wines goes beyond the concept of “Boutique Winery”. We believe that it is essential to consolidate first our position in the domestic market and to have a strong presence in Argentina to then be recognised in foreign markets.

Ruca Malén works with a key concept: QUALITY, in order to produce wines of style, elegance and distinction.
