TIERRA PATAGONIA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - in their own words:

Currency and Cash:

The Chilean currency is the peso. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diner's Club cards. ATMs and Currency Exchange facilities are available in Puerto Natales which is an hour away.

Type of electricity voltage:
The electricity is 220v and the plugs have two round pins, like those in Europe. An international adaptor is needed for all other types of plug.

Rooms:
Rooms are equipped with safe, hair drier and telephone.   We do not have televisions in our guest rooms, but guests may watch TV programming in the hotel common area.  Wireless is available in the common areas.  We have accomodations suitable for disabled guests.

Mobile Phones
Chile has one of the most developed mobile phone infrastructures in South America, however at Tierra Patagonia service may be limited. Some cell phones may not operate. For those that do, the signal is the same as in the USA, travellers with European phones may need to adjust their phone's frequency before travelling.

Internet connections:
Wireless internet access is available in the public spaces at Tierra Patagonia Hotel and Spa.

What is the weather like?
The weather in Chilean Patagonia can be spectacularly beautiful or impressively awful!!  The good news is that it changes rapidly and that is part of the excitement and fun.  Bring your polar fleeces and your windbreakers, your hats and gloves.  This is a windy place.  You'll see dramatic cloud movements, you may see some rain, you'll probably experience the power of the wind.  It is all amazing, all worth trying.  Expose yourself to extreme weather and love it!  We have a big fireplace ready to welcome you when you come inside, and maybe you'd like a Patagonian hot whisky drink and a lap blanket too.  We'll keep you cozy and comfortable inside, nature will keep you in awe outside.

Can I drink the water?
The water in the hotel is perfectly safe to drink.  Delicious too...it's Patagonian!

Will altitude be a problem?
No.  Tierra Patagonia is not located at a high altitude and our guides will let you know what altitudes to expect when you are deciding which excursions to take.

Do we need medical shots or vaccinations?
No shots are necessary to visit Chile. Nevertheless, we suggest that you ensure that all your shots are up to date and that you check with your medical advisor before you travel.

What medical facilities are there?
An emergency first aid and local doctors are available in the town of Puerto Natales which is one hour away. We advise all guests to travel with a comprehensive insurance policy.

Is this a good place for families with children?
Families will be fascinated by the wild nature of Patagonia and will find Tierra Patagonia Hotel a fun place to stay.  The indoor swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi should please all ages and we offer excursions that are great for children as well as adults. We have family rooms that sleep six, plus we can provide cribs and cots for babies and smaller children, and can arrange babysitters. We do not have nursery or day-care facilities within our hotel. Our excursions are designed to be enjoyed by children over 10 or 12 years, however many can be adapted so they are suitable for younger children.
