ABOUT HACIENDA LA DANESA - in their own words:
The Olsen Family
In the early 1970s, Helge Olsen from Denmark visited Hacienda La Danesa, and immediately fell in love with the location. Helge purchased one of Ecuador’s biggest cacao farms, formerly owned by a Swedish enterprise. For more than three decades the hacienda has been home to the Olsen Peet family and used as a family retreat. Niels opened its doors to share his tropical paradise to a select number of guests looking to change pace and experience the Ecuadorian countryside. All this while creating a positive impact on local communities.

Hacienda La Danesa is a 1200-acre working hacienda, on which cacao and teak are grown and small batch tree-to-bar chocolate and cheese is produced. It is perfect for travelers seeking to slow down and let nature set the tempo. It accommodates up to 16 guests in 6 beautifully designed cottages. The countryside setting allows guests to explore the property on horseback, float down the lazy rivers, or indulge in hobby-farmer workshops. Explore nearby excursions such as the cloud-forest and waterfalls, horse ride among the buffaloes or visit the neighboring banana plantation on route back to the farmhouse, richly inspired with Ecuadorian and Scandinavian designs.

Sustainability
Cultivating, nourishing, enlightening and giving back form our core values. It is our belief that experiencing firsthand the liberation of slowing down to reconnect, whether with the self or significant others, is vital to a life well lived. Emerging out from under your day to day routine to engage in the local culture is possibly the best option to accomplish this freedom. The hacienda is more than just our life legacy as we intend creating a farm ‘for the people’. Guests play an integral role in sustaining this cozy family-owned hacienda which in turn sustains through policy. Our balanced policies facilitate achieving our 2030 goals with Let Girls Rise and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
