Birdwatching

Enjoy birdwatching in this 9,000-hectare reserve, home to over 260 bird species. Whether you are an amateur birder, or a pro twitcher, the region's vast diversity of stunning and colorful species, makes this a fascinating birding destination.

A highlight for guests is seeing the congregation hundreds of white, grey and scarlet-colored herons.

Guests also can expect to see capped herons, burrowing owls, jabirus, snowy egrets, crestless curassow, roseate spoonbills, orinoco geese, and the emblematic Corocoras (scarlet ibis).

Conservation

Join members of our conservation project and directly contribute to the camp's efforts to protect the ecosystems and wildlife in Colombia and Los Llanos region, including pumas and ocelots.

For example, guests can help set-up or monitor camera traps used to track and study animals' behaviors.

After visiting, guests can receive photos and videos of the animals, and continue contributing to the camp's efforts.

Culture & Traditions

Much like its landscapes, the cultural traditions of Los Llanos are incredibly distinctive. Music and poetry play a vital part in the lives of the local people, with intimate gatherings consisting of singing, dancing and drinking aguardiente as the fresh meat cooks on the traditional mamona barbeque.

The locals use a combination of harp and string from the small cuatro guitar to compliment witty lyrics about their families, women, horses and land to create an enchanting atmosphere around the fire.

These cultural traditions have been beautifully preserved to this day and offer guests an extremely privileged cultural interaction first-hand.

Family Experiences

Our staff goes above and beyond to cater to our younger guests and create special experiences for them, including artisanal piranha fishing, nature walks, canoeing, animal scavenger hunts and bonfire dinners.

Alongside our team, kids can prepare local treats, participate in conservation and reforestation efforts and learn about the wildlife in Colombia.

Horseback Riding Expedition

Undoubtedly the best way to explore the depths of the region is by traditional horseback. As vast areas of the plains become flooded during rainy season, horseback is the only way to fully experience the region’s diverse landscapes, for both experienced and beginner riders alike.

Alongside a local Llanero who lives and breathes the land, set out across the endless plains, chasing wildlife, crossing rivers and even swimming through lakes –all on horseback.

Guests can venture out on a riding expedition at any time of the day or night, making this a truly liberating experience that embodies the very essence of Corocora Camp.

Llanero Cowboys

For one of the most authentic experiences in wild Colombia, spend a day alongside the local Llaneros, or Colombian Cowboys.

Taming and creating strong bonds with their horses and caring for cattle is a way of life; one that is taught from early childhood and lives on through the proud generations.

Try your hand at the lasso, ride your horse barefoot and learn traditional melodies used to call and ease cattle.

Wildlife

On horseback, onboard 4x4s, or canoeing, get up close and personal with some of the most fascinating wildlife in Colombia. Set out on early morning walks in search of anteaters, night drives tracking pumas, or let our specialized guides and Llanero cowboy trackers, lead you through this 9,000 hectare reserve.

Key species include white-tailed deer, capybaras, anacondas, giant and lesser anteaters, howler monkeys, and if you are very lucky, ocelots and pumas.

Visit us during rainy season for helicopter expeditions to the wild rivers of the Orinoco basin, and catch a glimpse of the allusive pink river dolphins and giant otters.
