ABOUT THE HOTEL DEEP BLUE EXPERIENCES & ACTIVITIES - in their own words:

Experiences & activities on Colombia's Providencia Island

Colombia’s Providencia Island offers guests the unique opportunity to experience an unspoilt Caribbean of bygone years. Providencia is perhaps the Caribbean’s least spoilt island retreat. Traditional Creole culture and lifestyle remain very strong on this English speaking island.

Our luxurious 18 foot boat is the perfect cruiser to take guests on private tours to explore Providencia and neighbouring Santa Catalina Island, as well as a handful of beautifully picturesque offshore Cayes. Private tours can be tailor-made to suit your individual preferences, and may include activities as diverse as picnics on deserted beaches, relaxing on uninhabited Cayes, snorkelling with turtles or fishing / harpooning fish to eat for a barbecue lunch on the beach.

The calm, crystalline waters and small offshore islands of the nearby McBean Lagoon National Marine Park are a delight to explore by kayak. Ask us for some snorkelling equipment as turtles are frequently to be seen whilst snorkelling in the National Park.

Other activities that may be arranged include treks through the islands verdant jungle, scuba diving the world’s third longest barrier reef, birdwatching, golf buggy/moped hire to explore the island’s beaches and deep sea fishing. Every morning a complimentary shuttle service does a circuit of the island taking our guests to the beach of their preference.

In addition to these activities, most guests choose to spend a considerable amount of time simply relaxing in the spectacular natural surroundings of our deck, swimming or snorkeling in the calm sea.

SCUBA DIVING

Forming part of the UNESCO designated Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, Providencia's pristine barrier reef is the third longest in the world. Here one finds a great variety of easily accessible scuba diving that is suitable for both novice and experienced divers. The tropical waters around Providencia Island are warm, clear and calm year round, making it the ideal destination to learn to dive or take a PADI course. Experienced divers can find enthralling, rarely visited scuba sites near Providencia.

The underwater visibility in these waters is excellent and often in excess of 30 metres. Popular dives include the steep walls and multi-coloured sponges found at Blue Hole, the sharks and huge variety of colours at Table Rock, the caves and pristine coral at Tete's Place and the German tanker shipwreck Planchon. In addition to the numerous dive sites a short boat trip from Providencia, there are many more pristine reefs to explore further afield near the distant Cayes to the North of Providencia Island.

Using PADI certified instructors and dive masters, Deep Blue will happily arrange your scuba diving in Providencia.
