Some Don'ts

Dress in Buenos Aires is dressy casual; if men wear blue jeans, they probably are wearing a sports jacket as well. Plain ole casual casual is out; shorts are rarely seen in the city. Many of the finer restaurants require men to have coat and tie. For women pants suits are acceptable.

Don't expect to find retaurants bustling at our traditional dinner hour of 8, or even 9PM. Nightlife in Buenos Aires is late - dining begins around 10 PM.

Don't ask for ketchup.  Ask for chimichurri, an oil-garlic-parsley sauce that compliments the beef.

Don't order scotch by brand name, such as Johnny Walkers; in fact don't say "scotch" at all. It is called "whiskey" in Argentina and you will save a bundle of money if you order it by its Argentine name: whiskey.

Don't drink the water. It is well treated but just differently than American water. No reason to take any chances.  There is excellent bottled water.

And don't order French wines! Argentina has excellent wines. Don't miss them.
