ABOUT MARPATAG's The Spirit of the Glaciers ITINERARY - in their own words:

DAY 1 - Tue or Fri
We will board at the company’s own dock “La Soledad” (Bahía Tranquila, Paraje Punta Bandera) at 6:00 p.m.

We will navigate towards Puesto de las Vacas (an extremely quiet bay in the Canal Spegazzini). Passing through Punta Avellaneda and Boca del Diablo, which is the narrowest passage in the lake with around 800 meters.

After dinner, the guests will be invited to share different activities.

DAY 2 - Wed or Sat

At 9:00 a.m., After a delicious breakfast we will disembark in Puesto de las Vacas to enjoy a walk coordinated by our team of guides. In this first stop, we will be able to see stunning panoramic views of the Spegazzini glacier.

Once on board again we continue navigating Lago Argentino, taking the Canal Spegazzini for the next stop in front of Spegazzini glacier. The front walls are around 80 and 135 meters (262 – 443 feet). The Spegazzini looks like a huge icy river that descends from a rocky mountainside until it plunges into the lake. It is there, in front of this marvelous sight, where we will enjoy our first lunch.

After lunch we will navigate Brazo Norte, we will see the series of ice floes, of the most varied colors and shapes, which anticipate the proximity of the stunning Upsala glacier. We will stop in front of barrier of ice floes, if the weather conditions are good, we will observe the Upsala glacier. The Upsala is 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) wide on the lake, its walls are 60 meters (197 feet) high on average, and its total surface is about 900 km2 (347 square miles), including its drainage basin.

The next destination will be Bahia del Toro, in Seno Mayo. After dinner, passengers can join some of the activities organized by the crew. A lively talk, sharing ideas and the feelings created during the day, or the observation of the constellation map on a moon night, are just perfect for ending the second day of our journey.

DAY 3 - Thu or Sun

At dawn, while we navigate south, passengers will have breakfast. We will land once again and get into the Andean-Patagonian woods to experience the magnificent natural landscape of Mayo and Negro glaciers. There, we will get to exclusively know the continental ice shelter where many journeymen left their traces.

After crossing the Canal de los Témpanos, the Crucero will arrive at the most outstanding of the glaciers, the Perito Moreno, where we will travel around the 2.5 kilometer front (1.5 miles) on the lake. Its walls, which are almost 60 meters (197 feet) high, still surprise with numerous calvings and powerful sounds. We will have lunch surrounded by this spectacular natural landscape.

On the way back, while we navigate through Lago Argentino towards the company’s own dock La Soledad, we will have our farewell toast, the end of our journey. At 4 p.m., we will land and be transferred to El Calafate.
