ACTIVITIES & PROGRAMS
The lodge is a destination for nature lovers of all types, offering activities for people who want to see wildlife in its natural habitat.

There are five types of programs offered by the lodge:

  • BIRDWATCHING
    Cristalino is a premier  destination for bird lovers with a multitude of opportunities for observing, photographing, and learning about the amazing Southern Amazon Birds.

  • ECOTOURISM
    These programs are designed for nature lovers seeking a memorable experience in the Amazon. Participants will learn about the wildlife in general, mammals, trees, butterflies, reptiles and flowers — and its importance to the equilibrium of nature.

  • BUTTERFLY OBSERVATION
    These programs are focused on observing the vast number of butterflies and skippers that inhabit this region.

  • PHOTOGRAPHY
    Cristalino Lodge is an ideal place for photographers who wish to capture the hidden secrets of the Amazon forest.

  • FAMILY TRIPS
    An ideal program for families who wish to share a great experience with an educational element with their children (the lodge recommends children above 9 years old).

The activities in each of these programs may include:
  • HIKING
    The extensive trail system allows for wildlife observation according to the group’s needs and desires. The hikes take place on a variety of different habitats and trails
  • CANOEING
    The pristine Cristalino River is fabulous for canoe excursions
  • SWIMMING
    The floating dock or the river rapids are safe, refreshing, and outstanding for bathing
  • BUTTERFLIES
    Watching butterflies during sunny hours is a highlight
  • BOAT TRIPS
    Accompanied by guides for observation of wildlife on the riverbanks
  • TREE HOUSE
    A spot where mammals such as tapirs and peccaries feed on natural salty earth
  • CANOPY TOWER
    Hiking to and climbing the canopy tower at down or sunset for observing the forest landscape and canopy wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, macaws, and other birds from above the canopy is a must at Cristalino Lodge.
GROUP SIZES
The group size for most of our activities is limited to 8 people in order to increase the chances of encountering wildlife. Larger groups are usually divided into smaller groups. Every morning and every afternoon, guests may join their group and embark on one of these activities. Our diverse and flexible itineraries allow for a remarkably personalized experience.

GIANT OTTER PACKAGE
5-DAYS / 4-NIGHTS

NOTE: This is a suggested itinerary. Local guides can customize and coordinate activities so that clients are able visit the most desired trails. Your trip can also be customized with more or fewer days in the region.

DAY 1.
Arrival in Alta Floresta, pick up and transfer to Cristalino Jungle Lodge. Upon arrival, there will be an introduction to the lodge and to your accommodations. Library and maps are available.

DAY 2.
In the morning, hike towards the 50 meter Canopy Tower where you will be able to see the forest from above the canopy. Monkeys, macaws and several species of birds can be found here. Then, walk the Ficus Trail, where a giant Ficus Tree is found. In the afternoon, walk the Taboca Trail in an area with seasonally flooded forest, where many monkeys can be found.

DAY 3.
In the morning, hike towards the Saleiro House - a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve. The soil here is naturally rich in minerals, and is often visited by large forest mammals such as the South american Tapir, Collared Peccary, White-lipped Peccary, the Giant Anteater and the Southern Tamandua. By the afternoon, boat trip up river and hike the remarkable Brazil Nut Trail in a region with enormous Brazil Nut Trees. On the way back it is possible to canoe or boat ride, watching the afternoon as you go down river.

DAY 4.
Boat trip in the morning and hike the “Sierra Trail”: a site with a low, drier and deciduous type of forest. This trail has beautiful viewpoints since it is located in a hilly landscape. Orchids are often found in this area. In the afternoon hike in the Teles Pires island, a place where parakeets, parrots, macaws and nesting wood storks can be seen. Sunset at this place is great for photography.

DAY 5.
Light hike in the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Transfer to Alta Floresta. Lunch and departure to Cuiaba.
