 ABOUT ESTANCIA LAS HIJAS - in their own words:

Estancia Las Hijas, a historic family run estancia in the heart of Tierra del Fuego, some 100 km from Ushuaia.

The activities can be combined depending on the interest and time available of the visitor. The Day on the Farm includes meals (Lunch and Tea) in the “asador” of the farm. The Horseriding of more than two hours includes a refreshment. By contracting Day on the Farm or Horseriding there will be included a tour around the main buildings or a walk.

Traditional Day on the Farm:
We invite you to know the farm and meet its people. To participate in a working demonstration with the sheep dogs. In the pens we show you how we separate our sheep and then take them to the shearing shed to see how they are shorn. The owners are in charge of the lunch. They await you with one of the manjares of the region, roast lamb on the spit and fresh salads.

Proposed itinery with transport from Ushuaia

* 08:15hs. We leave for Las Hijas farm, travelling through the winter resorts, Garibaldi Pass, Lake Escondido, Lake Fagnano y Tolhuin.
* 12:00 hs. We arrive at the Las Hijas farm where we are recieved and shown around the main buildings.
* 13:00 hs. Lunch: Roast lamb with drinks. For a vegetarian menu you must advise the day before.
* 14:30 hs. Activities. Round up of some sheep on foot with sheep dogs,work in the pens and run. You will be shown the different types of animales, the shearing of a sheep and conditioning of its wool for bailing.
* 17:00 hs. We leave for Ushuaia. Tea on the road.

Duration: 10hs aprox from Ushuaia. We have our own vehicules.

The Traditional Day on the Farm can be tailored to highlight horseback riding or hiking in the area.

Horseriding:
We have tame horses which will take us for an agreeable ride around part of the farm. We have three circuits of variable duration and difficulty which adapt to the interest and ability of the visitor. You will always be with one of the family. It is recommended to have had some previous experience. Duration: betweem 1 y 3 hours.
Tour of the buildings

Descriptive walk around the buildings.
We will explain what the use of the different farm buildings is. You will be accompanied by a family member who will explain what itīs like to live on a farm.
Walks

We have a well indicated pathway which will guide you through the ņire woods to the edge of our sinuous stream. It is ideal to enjoy our unspoild natural scenery with its own particular beauty. The walks can be done on your own or with a family member. Duration: variable between 40 min. and 2 hours.
