Casapueblo near Punta del Este, URUGUAY |
Casapueblo is the museum and atelier of
Uruguayan painter-sculptor Carlos Paez Vilaro. The building is art itself, soaring at different heights and uneven and surprising and very Mediterranean. It was built by the artist over the years as a place to live, paint and receive his friends, and has since grown into a small apartment complex along with his museum and showroom. It is located at Punta Ballena, just 8 miles outside of Punta del Este. Carlos Paez Vilaro has a colorful background, having lived with Dr ALbert Schweitzer in an African leprosy colony, in many countries and unique sites in the world including Oceania, New Guinea, Brasil and Machu Picchu, and his work has been shown with that of Picasso, Dali and Calder. A visit to the museum and atelier includes a short video on the life of Carlos Paez Vilaro. |
