ABOUT THE HOTEL VILLA BAHIA - in their own words:

In the heart of Salvador’s historical centre, a step away from the Jorge Amado Museum, from the celebrated Lacerda Elevator and the Praca da Se overlooking All Saints Bay.

A hotel of charm, which we have renovated with care – 17 rooms, a gourmet restaurant, a spa and swimming pool.

A staff of 35 overseen by Bruno Guinard, our French host, and Laurent, our Belgian chef, both of whom have long adopted Bahia as their home.

The rooms recall the most important moments in the history of the Portuguese explorers, of the African and Asian trade exchanges, of the sea routes, closely tied to the spice trade.

The common areas recall the genius of the great Portuguese navigators, of Pedro Alvarez Cabral, who in 1500 discovered Brazil; of Magellan, of Vasco de Gama; and of the advances made in seafaring that made it possible for them to bring different worlds closer to each other.

The restaurant and bar evoke the theme of the Spice Route. Bahia gourmet cuisine is revisited here by a great chef.

Our spa invites you to discover beauty care and relaxation inspired by the knowledge Guarani Indians have passed down for generations to each other.

Indeed, so you may discover Bahian art de vivre from the inside out, we have combined authenticity and charm – it’s up to you to enjoy the good life we offer here!

Spaces for living:
The Villa Bahia has secreted away 2 hidden patios. One of them shelters a fountain surrounded with papyrus, ferns and palm trees. Round marble tables with wrought-iron chairs invite you to sit and listen to exotic birds twittering in the morning, to crickets singing in the evening, to the sound church bells all day long.

On the other side of a narrow corridor: the white patio. It serves as backdrop to a pool set off very dramatically by its Maltese cross mosaic. From your deck chair, contemplate the wall covered with vegetation, or the bath decorated with azulejos tiles, rediscovered during the restoration work.

The terrace offers a view of historical Bahia’s roofs, belltowers and colourful facades.

The lounges come with deep couches and antique armchairs, to create a warm Colonial atmosphere.

The restaurant:
The restaurant revisits Bahia cuisine, through the talent of Laurent Rezette, the great international chef. World cuisines are seasoned with dendé (palm oil, typical of Bahia cuisines); Brazilian cassava is omnipresent, and cinnamon accompanies Bahia desserts.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant, whether you prefer the coolness of the dining room or you choose being on the patio to breathe in the morning tropical air while listening to the city’s sounds fading after the night’s festivities. Breakfast consists of both sweet and savoury Salvador specialities, such as tapioco cuscus or cassava beijus, washed down with fresh fruit juice.

We are in coffee country here, the café offering you a tasting of the best varieties. House roasted, its delicious odour regularly fills the room. For those who would turn down a pure Arabica, the café offers a wide range of tropical fruits, suco (fresh juice) of jabuticaba, of cupuaçu, etc., and of course the standard, the famous caipirinha.

Well-Being:
Slight, long-haired, with a green-eyed gaze, our healer Jorge was trained in music therapy and reiki. He offers both a body massage using natural products, or a “musical voyage”. This voyage is a unique experience for the senses that will send you into a deep state of relaxation between meditation and trance. Jorge uses all types of musical instruments, the vibrations of which will approach or touch your skin. The sound of a rain stick, a triangle, a guitar, a flute, percussion instruments or very soft incantations will invade your ears and your body, vibrating around and in you.

This man seems to carry universal love in his person. Whether you are familiar with these techniques or not, you will receive his gentleness, his generosity and his energy.

Our unusual well-being programme consists of massages with Amazonian essential oils, saunas, relaxation and ofuro baths.
