ABOUT THE AUBREY BOUTIQUE HOTEL - in their own words:

HISTORY
The principal house was built in 1927 for Domingo Durán Morales, an influential Chilean politician and businessman of his day. He made his fortune building railway lines connecting remote parts of Chile and was a member of the National Congress as a representative of the rising Chilean middle class. He married Julia Neumann and had three children: Domingo, Julio and Marcela. The children lived in the house for most of their childhood and beyond, as the family continued to live in the house after the death of Domingo Durán Morales in 1961. His sons Domingo and Julio went on to become prominent politicians in their own right, one of them running as a Presidential candidate in 1964.

For several decades the dining room of the house, where today is located the restaurant Pasta e Vino, was the scene of "Legendary Thursday Political Lunches", where every week was an open-house for leading figures in Santiago's political and social life, afternoons spent in heated discussions that helped build the discourse of the Chilean middle class of the day.  The family continued to live in the house until 2001.

TODAY
The Aubrey is truly an urban retreat that lets one escape from the buzz of the city. It is a transformed space with 15 beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms, each with a unique character and most with balconies and terraces. The old Mission style outdoor patio terraces now provide for an outdoor oasis, overlooked by exotic landscaped gardens, where you can relax by the heated jacuzzi swimming pool and for much of the year enjoy alfresco dining, relaxing with the peaceful sounds of the cascading water arches.

The Aubrey combines the original mansion with a neighbouring house, both of which were built in the same year by the same architect.  The neighbouring house incorporates art deco features that have been carefully retained.  The Aubrey includes a contemporary purpose-built pavilion that contains the bar and overlooks a patio which makes for a romantic space, bordering the hill, Cerro San Cristobal. A modern heated swimming and original arches coexist harmoniously with the new construction, giving a nostalgic tone to the scene. The play of light over the different style elements of the hotel make a stay at The Aubrey a work of art.

LOCATION
The Aubrey is situated at the foot of the Cerro San Cristóbal Hill within the Parque Metropolitano, one of the six largest urban parks in the world, a short stroll from Pablo Neruda's beloved house La Chascona in the picturesque Barrio Bellavista, the tourist center of Santiago.

Barrio Bellavista is situated just a short walk over the "Mapocho river" from the downtown centre of Santiago and has its own identity of colourful streets, lively atmosphere, and eclectic architecture . Here you can ride the cable car and enjoy the panoramic vistas of the city from the Cerro San Cristóbal, taste and experience the traditional Chilean life of Pio Nono outdoor bars, sample a Pisco Sour or sip a fine Chilean wine and listen to live music in the cafes and cosmopolitan restaurants on Calle Constitucion and Patio Bellavista

Just 20 minutes from Arturo Merino Benitez Airport, The Aubrey is a starting point for major ski resorts, vineyards in the Central Valley and the Pacific coast, all within two hours away.

The Aubrey offers a unique and truly memorable place to stay in Santiago, whether as your gateway to exploring the natural wonders of Chile or your base for discovering this fascinating city.
