From Santiago or Puerto Montt, fly south to Balmaceda where the staff of the Termas de Puyuhuapi meets you and drives you over paved road (about one hour) to Coyhaique where the paved road ends and you continue another couple of hours on "all-weather" road to Puerto Aysen and finally Puerto Chacabuco. Click here to see regional map.

At Puerto Chacabuco you board the "Patagonia Express" a modern 56 passenger catamaran. The lower level has reclinable seats all individually connected to music and video channels, and wide windows. The upper deck holds the dining room, bar and lounge facilities with panoramic views and wide decks.

You'll enjoy the spectacular scenery as you cruise five hours north through the Aysen fjord, Puyuhuapi Channel and Seno Ventisquero to the Termas de Puyuhuapi.

The main building houses the reception area, staffed by friendly, English speaking personnel; the living room with multiple seating areas of overstuffed couches and chairs with fronting the windows with spectacular vistas across the lake, or fronting the fire place.

There is a small lounge with a well stocked bar, and a dining room. Meals are "table d'hôte" with a choice of appetizers, main courses and desserts.

Rooms are located in several separate buildings, most resembling Swiss chalets. There is a long, one story building directly fronting the bay with junior suites.

Rooms are well appointed, with plenty of closet space and drawers. Heating is provided by under-the-floor pipes, regulated by the front desk, or by opening windows. This heating system is particularly nice in the bathrooms, making them toasty warm. Bathrooms are modern, with ample space for toiletries, plenty of hot water and big, fluffy towels.

The Termas de Puyuhuapi is indeed a full fledged "spa" with Thalasso Therapy Facilities.

There are also three outdoor thermal pools, one in a natural setting and two regular style pools, both fronting the bay, and temperatures varying depending on the amount of flow coming from the hotel springs, ranging from 90 to 104 degrees.

A scenic but short path takes you form the hotel to the pools. There is also a snack bar and dressing-restroom facilities close by.

At the end of your stay, you will make the full day excursion to Laguna San Raphael and its spectacular glacier. The day is filled with scenery as you cruise south through fjords, channels and gulfs, finally arriving at Laguna San Rafael just after lunch.

Here are huge mountains, a giant glacier and an ice-berg studded lagoon. You'll board zodiacs to cruise close to this giant of glaciers and you'll share a toast made with 20,000 year old ice chips from a floating iceberg.

Then late afternoon departure to cruise north back to Puerto Chacabuco, arriving late evening, for transfer to your hotel in Coyhaique for overnight. It's a long day, but filled with majestic vistas and the glory of nature.
